The events of the first day from the 1st Drystone-wall School of Andros Island

07 Nov 2021

With joyful and creative spirit started yesterday, November 6, the 1st Drystone-wall School of Andros, which is implemented in the framework of the LIFE TERRACESCAPE project.

The morning session started with meeting among the trainees, craftsmen, and organizers at the emblematic hall of the Environmental Education Center of Korthi, the first school of Andros and one of the first to have operated in pre-revolutionary Greece (1813). This was followed by the technical hands-on training session of the School, right next to the Environmental Education Center, which included clearing of a part of the existing drystone wall in collapsing state and rebuilding the ca. 70 meters long terrace wall; in addition, a demonstrative foundation and building of a new drystone wall on a newly cleared part of the field.

In the afternoon, always in the hall of Environmental Education Center, the project coordinator presented the LIFE TERRACESCAPE project, followed by presentations given by representatives of the two main project partners, the Municipality of Andros and the Green Fund. Discussion and planning for the next day's activities followed. The discussion was attended online by the project monitor Mrs. Sofia Papageorgiou, on behalf of the EU CINEA.

As of today, the afternoon meetings (16.00-18.00) will be freely accessible, for anyone interested, via the link: https://aegean-gr.zoom.us/j/94919085128?pwd=QmhuSkpCVU0zU0RhNTdtQjVlZ0U2QT09.
